By John Goralski Sports Writer The Southington South Little League 9-10 All-Stars haven’t slowed down as they raced into the Eastern Region Invitational in Cranston, R.I. The locals have surged past teams from Maine and New Hampshire to take a 2-0 lead in the New England pool-play brackets. At this point, the Southington squad is no stranger to postseason competition. They were unblemished in their capture of a CT District 5 title. They stayed undefeated as they locked up the CT Section I title, and they suffered just one loss on their way to the 2013 CT State title. On Tuesday, July, 30, Southington rebounded from their first postseason loss to cruise past Newington, 13-2, to clinch the best-of-three series. Southington won the opening game, 13-3, before losing in an 11-1 game that tied the state final series. With their win in the rematch, Southington South became Team Connecticut for the regional competition. On Saturday, Aug. 3, the locals began their quest for a regional title against a field of 11 state champions at the Eastern Regional Invitational at Verrato Field in Rhode Island.
