The town’s flag will fly at half-mast on Tuesday, June 17, to commemorate the life of Joe Angelillo. Angelillo passed away at the age of 91, on Wednesday, June 11. “It is very rare [to fly the flag at half-mast],” said Town Manager Garry Brumback. Brumback said the flag is only flown at half-mast for those that have made significant contributions to the town. Though it has happened a few times in the past, this is the first occurrence during Brumback’s tenure. The town does not have the authority to have the United States flag flown at half-mast. Town Council Chairman Michael Riccio asked that the flag be flown at half-mast. Angelillo was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had a long and distinguished career within the state. He was a member of the VFW, the Elks and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Vo-Ag Advisory Committee and director of the Reuben Thalberg Foundation and the Southington Historical Society. Angelillo was a communicant and volunteer at St. Thomas Church for over 50 years. He also sponsored pizza parties for St. Thomas School.
