Olney Wendall Needham, “Hoogie” to all who knew him, died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the age of 85 in Venice Florida. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Ingalls Needham of 64 years. Hoogie was born on October 31, 1928 to Charles and Laura Needham in Middlebury, VT. Hoogie graduated from Middlebury High School in 1947. He then attended American International College and Coyne Electrical Institute in Boston. He married his high school sweetheart in 1950 where they resided until he was drafted for Korea to serve in the US Army. Returning to the States in 1953 he continued his career with Connecticut Light and Power. After 39 years with the same company he moved to Venice, Florida where he and Jean enjoyed 25 years of retirement. Hoogie leaves his wife, son Tom and wife Wendy, son Tim and wife Jackie. He was the very proud “Grandpa” to five grandchildren – Kate, Leighton, Paul, Sara, and Jennifer, along with three great grandchildren, Isabella, Wesley and Piper. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He is pre deceased by brothers, Leonard, Raymond, Warren, Charles Jr., and sisters Mildred, Marion, Blance, Frances and nieces and nephews.
