By John Goralski Sports Writer On the second play of the game, a Blue Knight interception gave Glastonbury the ball inside the 50-yard line. On Southington’s second possession, a punt from their own end zone careened out of bounds in the red zone. With 10 minutes elapsed in Southington’s season opener, the defense had only given up 31 yards on four Glastonbury possessions, but the Tomahawks were in control of the contest with a 10-0 lead. At the end of the first quarter, Southington’s torrid offense had accounted for just one first down as the Knights stumbled into their Class LL title defense. On Friday, Sept. 12, the Knights opened their season with five turnovers. Special teams botched two punts and fumbled on another. A pair of kick-offs sailed out of bounds for penalties, and three interceptions halted Southington possessions. Glastonbury scored 24 points off turnovers and special teams mistakes. Yet, somehow, the Knights came away with a 41-38 win. “It was ugly. We had too many penalties.
